ψ Subtle Ability:
Have a good night!- If she says good night to you, or something along that line (“Sleep well”, “Don’t let the bed bugs bite”, etc), then chances are that you’ll wake up more refreshed than usual. This ability doesn’t have any control over what dreams the person have while sleeping, whether sweet dreams or nightmares, but regardless, the person will likely wake up feeling decently rested. The more stressed and distracted an individual is, however, the less effective this ability becomes.

- Snow
- Needles

Ω Personality:
+Optimistic  / +Understanding / +Focused / -Worrying / -Self-deprecating / -Bottled up / -Obsessive
Perhaps her optimism and focus promote a far more confident image than one she thinks herself to have, but Carina projects a sort of calmness to her that makes her seem dependable. She’s not someone who tends to run around aimlessly, and spends her time on tasks entrusted to her. She’s a fast learner, able to understand concepts and forms quickly, and prefers to finish responsibilities in as little time as possible.
While Carina’s dependability might qualify her for a good leader, she worries too much about others’ opinions about her to command with grace and fairness. She will obsess over every little criticism, repeating the words to herself again and again until a new one comes along, and she has something else to worry about. She has a self-deprecating sense of humor that she constantly questions, and tends to absorb her negative emotions to brood over by herself. When she’s pushed to a breaking point, Carina will become confrontational and emotionally shaky, alternating from fits of explosive anger to meek, teary-eyed apologies.

Ω History:
Carina was born in America, but raised in Taipei, Taiwan, as her mother worked as a visiting professor in the nearby National Taiwan University. She grew up surrounded by a culture of education – one that she felt isolated from due to her dyslexia and ADHD. Her mother was a strong believer in hard work triumphing over even the most impossible obstacles, however, and pushed Carina to spend all her time practicing how to read, sit still, concentrate on the words, decipher out its language… Tasks that ended in constant failure, but neither the daughter nor mother were the type to give up. In a culture that held reservations against single parent – and especially single mother – families, Carina had her share of bullying and teasing in elementary school. “Just don’t let them bother you.” Mother would always tell her. “Don’t listen to them. Focus on something else.”
But she couldn’t. The constant whispering in her head, instead of staying as an afterthought, grew louder and louder as Carina fell farther behind in school. The friends she made moved onto studying for entrance exams into middle school, and Carina couldn’t blame them for that: testing soon became the priority for everyone else. Her mother enrolled her into a Tai Chi program, hoping the old men and women exercising every Sunday morning in the park would calm and relax the struggling daughter. The tactic worked, as Carina found the slow but constantly moving forms re-energizing.
When Carina was 10, her mother’s work in the university ended, and the two moved back to America – Houston, Texas, to be more exact. Between the expansive culture and new language, arina found herself drowning in doubt once more. She already had a hard time reading Chinese, something she grew up with, so what about English? She got used to the spoken language in about 2 years, but the growing amount of literature she needed to know overwhelmed her. Once again, martial arts became her only outlet and her only way to really make any friends: her forms were good, her movements concise, so she was soon a regular at the local studio. Her specialty was the Jian, and she participated in a number of competitions as representative, winning minor trophies and medals that brought a smile to her mother’s face. Finally, a breath of air.
It wasn’t long before Carina felt the clutch of paranoia against her throat once more, however, starting with strange shapes at the edge of her vision and turning into a teacher in the hallway shifting, for a second, into a shriveled beast. Something was wrong with her, Carina was certain. “A section of my brain finally stopped working” or “It’s because of that thing I ate last week” or “I KNEW I was crazy, I’ve always known it” or—Her mother finally stepped in, slowly explaining to Carina just why her father was never in the picture. It wasn’t something Cirina ever really questioned, having long accepted it as another strange fact in her strange life. She realized just how strange she was, however, and at the age of 13, attended her first Camp HalfBlood summer camp. She was claimed soon after, and took her first timid peek into the Hypnos cabin.
Carina went to school for another 2 years, at the stubborn insistence of her mother that “Education should always come first!” Gradually, the unprotected outside gradually became too dangerous, and seeing that hopes for Carina advancing into higher degrees became next to nonexistent, her mother finally conceded. Carina started her first year as year rounder when she was 16, with occasional care packages sent to her, filled with milk tea mixes and Asian crackers from her mother.

tl;dr: Carina grew up in Taiwan with her mother, where aside from struggling in school, she learned Tai Chi as an outlet. After moving back to Houston at the age of 10, she continued doing martial arts while learning English until at 13, she started seeing weird shapes at the edges of her vision. Her mother insisted for her to continue normal education, however, and allowed her to only attend summer camps one she turned 16.
